Bernedoodles are a popular crossbreed of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. They are known for their friendly, playful personalities, hypoallergenic coats, and intelligence. There are many different generations of Bernedoodles, each with its own unique set of characteristics.

F1 Bernedoodles

F1 Bernedoodles are the first generation of Bernedoodles. They are bred from a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog and a purebred Poodle. F1 Bernedoodles are the most unpredictable generation, as they can inherit any of the physical and personality traits of their parents. Some F1 Bernedoodles will have thick, curly coats that are low-shedding, while others will have straighter coats that shed more. Some F1 Bernedoodles will have the classic Bernese Mountain Dog look, while others will look more like Poodles.

F1B Bernedoodles

F1B Bernedoodles are bred from an F1 Bernedoodle and a Poodle. F1B Bernedoodles are typically 75% Poodle and 25% Bernese Mountain Dog. This means that they are more likely to have the curly, low-shedding coat of a Poodle. F1B Bernedoodles are also more likely to have the intelligence and trainability of a Poodle. However, F1B Bernedoodles may not have the same physical characteristics as Bernese Mountain Dogs, such as the black and brown coat or the distinctive "Berner smile."

F2 Bernedoodles

F2 Bernedoodles are bred from two F1 Bernedoodles. F2 Bernedoodles are even more unpredictable than F1 Bernedoodles. They can inherit any of the physical and personality traits of their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. This means that it is impossible to know for sure what an F2 Bernedoodle will look like or what its personality will be like.

Multi-Generational Bernedoodles

Multi-generational Bernedoodles are bred from two Bernedoodles of the same generation. This can be F1 Bernedoodles, F1B Bernedoodles, F2 Bernedoodles, or even F3 Bernedoodles. Multi-generational Bernedoodles are typically more predictable than first-generation Bernedoodles. This is because they have inherited the same genes from their parents multiple times. Multi-generational Bernedoodles are also more likely to have the desired physical characteristics of Bernedoodles, such as the curly, low-shedding coat and the friendly, playful personality.

Why Multi-Generational Bernedoodles Are the Best

There are many reasons why multi-generational Bernedoodles are the best generation of Bernedoodles.

  • They are more predictable. Multi-generational Bernedoodles are more predictable than first-generation Bernedoodles. This means that you can be more confident about what your puppy will look like and what its personality will be like.

  • They have the desired physical characteristics. Multi-generational Bernedoodles are more likely to have the desired physical characteristics of Bernedoodles, such as the curly, low-shedding coat and the friendly, playful personality. They are also more often tri-colored which is the typical bernedoodle coloring many people are looking for.

  • They are healthier. Multi-generational Bernedoodles are often healthier than first-generation Bernedoodles. This is because they have a wider gene pool, which can help to prevent genetic disorders.

If you are looking for a Bernedoodle puppy, I highly recommend choosing a multi-generational Bernedoodle. They are the most predictable, have the desired physical characteristics, and are often healthier than first-generation Bernedoodles.
